Caring for the Spiritual

Posted on

Caring for ourselves as Spiritual Beings is in some ways the most important aspect of all.  This is the forever part of us, the true reality of who we are.  The part of us that will never age and never die.  It IS us.  No matter how well we care for the physical body, it will age, and finally come to the end of its time.  A lot of the ways people behave in life can be underpinned by this fear, that life is finite.  Except that it isn’t.

How can I say that?  Is it something I ‘believe’?   Hmm, I have to say, No, because for me ‘belief’ is a way of thinking about something I don’t actually ‘know’.   Belief needs faith, faith to hold onto something about which we aren’t wholly certain.  Not that I don’t have faith, I do – in friends, family, in the underlying goodness of humanity.  But in my life, and in my work with the Human Energy Field I have experienced enough of the Spiritual aspect of life, to prove to me beyond any doubt that life continues beyond the physical.

Before I go any further, do notice ‘The Small Print’ at the bottom of the blog.  This is perhaps the most controversial blog I have offered so far, because it involves that part of us which is unseen and eternal, and everyone has an opinion and their own belief.  Quite right too.  I want to say here that these are just my thoughts and suggestions, from all I have learned and experienced, over my lifetime.  They may not suit you, and that’s ok.  Please take from them what resonates with you and discard the rest.

So much has been written and channelled, by so many people, over millenia, about humankind as Spirit or Soul, that it can be hard to know where to start.  The general theory in the books I’ve read and courses I’ve attended goes something like this:  we are Spiritual Beings, and we choose to incarnate into the manifest world of Earth, to take on a physical body, for a short time.  The next question is – why would we do this?

The answers given are that we come to experience, to learn, to grow – as Souls and individuals – the duality and solidity of physical life, and then we return Home, to share what we have learned from our adventures in such a different environment.  One reason we do this is because as Spiritual Beings we are all connected in a very real sense, all One.  There are few differences at a Soul level, no male or female, no ‘age’, no linear time frame as on Earth, no cultural or religious differences.  Physical existence is how we experiment with individuation – being ‘different from’.

Someone once offered this analogy – imagine you are simply energy, floating, with no body, in a white space, where there is nothing to compare yourself to.  Then, you find you have a body, the space has walls and a floor, and a kitten comes into the ‘room’ and suddenly, you can see – oh, it is smaller than me, therefore I am larger.  It is furry, I am smooth.  It has a tail, I don’t have a tail.  It walks on four legs, I walk upright on two legs.  Comparison.  One is not ‘right’ and the other ‘wrong’ – it just ‘is’.

For me, understanding that I am a Spiritual Being is important because it gives a deeper meaning to existence.  Otherwise, perhaps, as the rather sad saying goes, ‘life sucks, and then you die’.  But what if you only ‘die’ to this current physical existence?  What if You continue – and have the opportunity to live another life, and another, trying out different aspects of the physical each time?   Or remain in the Spiritual realms and grow there.

Many people find and express their spirituality through a religious belief, which is fine.  However, a sense of Spirituality does not have to include this.  Lots of people have a sense of spirituality without any formal faith.  Sometimes people simply ‘sense’ there is more.  That comes from the Human Energy Field.  Even though most people are not aware they are an energetic Being, there is … something … something they can’t explain.  Deep in all of us is that ‘knowing’, that there is something more, beyond the physical.

Caring for ourselves as Spiritual Beings depends on that sense being acknowledged - that there is ‘more’.  However, if you choose not to consider that possibility, that is a choice, and living on Earth is about freewill and learning about choice, and the consequences of our choices.  As Dumbledore said to Harry Potter, “It’s not our abilities that make us who we truly are;  it is our choices.”   We can care for ourselves in all the other ways – physical, emotional, mental - very adequately and still live a full and fulfilling life.

But, if you were to think about being something More, a Being of Spirit, living a temporary life on Earth;  how might you honour and support that view of yourself?

One way might be to consider the idea of ‘karma’, because that very soon comes up in any discussion about a spiritual side of life.   And there are many views about this concept.  ‘Punishment’ is a common one – people can think they suffer in life because they did wrong in a previous life and are now being ‘punished’.  This is a terribly sad way to think and, in my view,  the way I was taught and the way I teach, it is not true.  I learned a lot about karma in my Energy Field Healing training, and karma is not about punishment, but about balance.  No Soul would ever incarnate to Lessen itself.  Why would we, if we come to grow and learn?

Imagine if, in a moment of rage and poor choice I were to have injured someone in a previous life, true karma would not dictate that I must then be injured in turn by that person in this life.  Why not?   Because there is no benefit from that kind of tit-for-tat, for anyone.  It sets up the person I injured to have to attack me, for a start, whether they want to or not!  Karma is about BALANCE.  Therefore, in the scenario above, a more likely agreement between the souls involved would be that the person needing to redress the balance would offer the other person some kind of help or assistance in the next life they shared – to be a teacher, to meet up at an appropriate point in life and offer some financial help, to be a parent or a supportive sibling, etc.  There are any number of ways that a positive outcome could be achieved.

And then we come to the difficult part – that when we do incarnate into the physical we largely ‘forget’ about being Spiritual Beings!  I have struggled with this, and often groan about it.  What on Earth (no pun intended)  is the point of us forgetting Who We Really Are?  Surely life would be easier if we just knew it all?  Yes, it certainly would, and there is the answer.  Life would be exceptionally easy if we had all the answers and knew exactly what to do and when, who to meet and where.  A bit like going into a maze, to enjoy the puzzle, and finding there’s a neon-yellow line that leads you straight to the middle!  Life is intended to be an exploration, a seeking, usually immersing ourselves first in the physical life and gradually as we get older, to begin to wonder if there is More, and to start to search out What Life is Really All About.

This is where the meditation classes come in, or yoga, or astrology, or crystals or trying out a complementary therapy, or deciding to change your career for something with more meaning.

Supporting ourselves as Spiritual Beings means giving ourselves opportunities to explore, to find out more about Who We Really Are, and Why We Are Here.  We don’t incarnate to just float through life, we each have a Destiny Plan and a purpose, or purposes, decided by us before we came into the physical.  So, it’s about getting to Know Yourself on a deeper level.

SITTING STILL AND QUIET allows the Energy Field to clear and calm, and we can begin to sense and feel more of who we really are, how we really feel about things.

MEDITATION is ideal for exploring the wider You, whether you use CDs or try a meditation class.   Guided meditations can be helpful.  www.joaslight.com, has some from my Energy Field Healer teacher,  and I love the meditations on the app Buddhify.  Some people prefer podcasts or Spotify to find good meditations.

STUDYING an energy therapy can be a very useful way to explore your Spiritual side, as well as learning something new.  Each therapy will have their own background and views so its important to find what suits you.  My suggestion would always be to experience the therapy, and meet the teacher, before booking onto a course.

For me, Energy Field Healing provided so many answers, and a clear, kind, supportive way of thinking of myself as a Spiritual Being.   Reiki is easy to learn and was intended originally for personal spiritual development, as well as helping others, if you chose to do that.

I wish you good adventuring, whether you are new to the path of discovering more, or continuing on your journey, as I am.  To finish, here are a couple of quotes related to our Spiritual nature.  The first from Joa, the guide who worked with my Energy Field Healing teacher.  And one from me, part of a poem I wrote a while back.  Plus a list of some books I have found helpful over the years.

"It's important to move beneath the surface, to go deeper, when exploring the truer potential of your nature. The inner you is rich, fascinating, infinitely capable, and stronger than you can imagine. Always, explore in depth, so that you may fathom your true nature."       Joa

“From the Earth we draw our bodies

And we ignite them to animation and life

With the flames of spirit.

The body is our vehicle,

A place for the soul to live the life we choose.

A learning.  For a little while.

But the sum of all we are,

Including the memory of who we were,

Lies in the soul.

And we return there, whole and perfect,

Gratefully surrendering the cells that held us, to the Earth”.
